Don't Ask Why...
So, have you ever had one of those days when you feel like you are accomplishing nothing?? There must be something else you should be doing…. Well, today was one of those days. This morning I woke up at 6:45am… don’t ask me why, but the last few days it’s been like that. I went out to where everyone was getting ready for their day… still in my pajamas. Everyone left so I decided that it’s been a too long since I listened to the Namibia CD, so I sat in the living room and listened to the whole thing… I needed that… then I decided to get ready for my day.
After getting dressed I walked outside to go and continue to sweep the building where we will be staying... TALK ABOUT DUST!!! As I walked outside Dieter called me over to introduce me to Claudia. She is the woman that was going to help me get the place ready for the arrival of the rest of the team and man she sweeps circles around me. She can speak five different languages (which doesn’t include English) so I made sure to have Dieter tell her she was much smarter than I am. After only working for an hour and a half, Dieter came to take me to the internet café so that I could get my e-mail and do the daily post. Then it was back for lunch.
As soon as lunch ended, the others were off again to do different things… and I was going to go with them, but Richard needed me to wait until he got back to show him some things and then he and Joan were off to Windhoek. Now I am alone… and feeling like I should be doing something else. So, I pick up a book and a couple visitors stop by… no one for me. The guy comes to fix the geyser (shower) in one of the other buildings…. ooh… had to test the water for him to verify it’s hot. Man…. I am busy now.
So at this point I am thinking man… I should be doing something else… then I think about how I will be working like crazy next week…. Maybe it’s just time to chill out. So, amidst all this excitement I pray that God would let me know why I am pretty much wasting my day away. I decide that it’s time to go over my “to-do” list for then 1,000,000th time when I hear “hello…”, I went to the back door and one of the men (Abram) from Vyf Rand was there. He told me that someone (Erastice) got a cut and maybe Miss Joan would have something to cover it. Well… I forgot my first-aid kit & have absolutely NO BAND-AIDS… yes, “Miss don’t forget the kit” forgot the kit… So I search around for a band-aid & find a first-aid kit. Well, the man had been working on the fence and I guess he pulled back on something and got hit in the head and had a deep gash on the side of his temple. This needed more than a band-aid… it’s a bleeder. So I put on the handy dandy rubber gloves and started to clean the wound. I thought I should pray aloud for it to stop bleeding… I did & it did. I even thought that I might have to grab my needle & thread and sew it shut, but I really did not want to do that. I put medicine on it and a bandage and I will check it tomorrow to see if I can butterfly stitch it together.
After nurse G finished up I had a great conversation with the people that were here. In the picture Abram, Erastice, G, John & Claudia. Abram asked me where I was from and how I got to Namibia… by car, train, boat?? When I told him a plane he told me that it was dangerous and then asked me what it looked like from up there. So I grabbed my laptop and started to show them pictures from the recon trip and August 2004 trip. They were amazed at all the pictures and the fact that my computer was so small “like a book” and I told him that it is called a notebook computer. While we were looking at the pictures they kept saying there is so-and-so and those are my brothers and that is my son when he was so small. I have never seen anything like this… will you show me more things I have never seen tomorrow??
I think the next time that I have an afternoon where I do not have something scheduled I will not ask why, I will just enjoy it while it lasts.
