Happy Independence Day!!!
Today was an interesting day to say the least… while Mike & I were off to the internet café to update you all in the morning, the rest of the team had an orientation time with Dieter and learned the history of Okahandja & he also shared his heart in regards to Mpampo. The afternoon was spent with a visit to Vyf Rand where we visited one of the homes and then went to the preschool playground to play with some kids. After that we took a trip into town and then to a local cemetery, where our hearts were broken with the reality of the AIDS epidemic.
In the evening it was a time to celebrate and debrief. We enjoyed a traditional African meal of boerewors & mealipop and then the dancers performed for the other teams that are staying on the property. Nate & Dave W. had spent the day chopping & gathering wood for our “Independence from America Party” where we had a GIGANTIC bonfire and sparklers. I think the fire will still be burning when we get ready to fly back home.

Hi guys! Glad you were able to celebrate the 4th! We went up to Rye and it was a lot of fun. Not on the beach, though. So, the weekend is over, the Fourth of July celebration has passed, the house is soooooo quiet without my little one asking me to make her some food!! I guess it's time to start cleaning up after the tornado went through here after the packing spree last Thursday!! Denise, Bonnie, and I are off to Boston Wednesday night to wish Brittany well at Nationals at the Hynes!! Anyone want to join us??? There's dancing going on all over the world!! Hi Jaimie, You are very fortunate for having this oportunity to see some of the " lesser traveled roads" as Robert Frost would say. I have always lived by this principle, See it now and you have memories when your old ...not regrets for not having tried something because it was unfamiliar and scary. It's also good to be empathetic of others.
