Darin's Journal
Journal Entry 7-05-05 7:00amWhere to begin? Could yesterday have gone any better, thank you Lord. Dieter's talk seemed a little too strong to me at first, but You seem to be using it. I never cease to be amazed, the girls are all thinking... some are talking.
Dieter shared that the HIV rate in Vyf Rand is between 70 & 80%. Within an hour of that revelation we were all surrounded by the children of Vyf Rand many of them with bare feet playing among sharp objects and broken glass. For a number of the girls this was a very difficult realization. Regardless, the girls were amazing. They all held the kids, loved on the kids and played in the dirt with the kids as if they had no concerns.
For me this scene became a poignant reminder: Jesus was scandalous in the eyes of religious leaders for His willingness to love the unlovable and touch the untouchable (Luke 5:12f).
We also met Marcus yesterday. He manages Dieter's property. He shared his testimony, that he was "thrown away" by the world because of his handicap, but God touched him. As I write this he has just arrived for work.
Then a very moving time at the cemetary was had by our whole team. We all saw the true face of HIV/AIDS.
The girls danced for the other teams last night. It was a stirring performance. Afterwards a couple of the girls shared that it was more meaningful than ever to dance in Namibia.
Many of us were up until 1am talking and singing... and crying. Four of the girls decided to sleep under the stars. As I write this they are 100 yards from me wearing every piece of clothing they packed trying to stay warm.

It is now habit to check-in numerous times a day for postings and comments. Yet each time there is little gem, a phrase, an insight or sentiment that makes me reflect. I can't seem to express my emotions in words. I get into the American rut of using catch phrases or overused adjectives. So today, just picture: tears runing down my cheeks, lips pressed to keep them from quivering, I tap my closed fist over my heart twice and point to you.
Darin, Thank you for the peace that I am now feeling! It took longer than I expected, but I am a very patient person. I know that the girls are in very good hands as you are watching over them very closely! Love to all!
